February Favourites

Music

I’ve discovered so much new music this month, it’s actually incredible. During the past few weeks, I’ve particularly fallen in love with songs from the 70s and 80s, especially by bands like Fleetwood Mac (their album “Rumours” is literally all I’ve been listening to recently), The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, whom I’d liked  before but have grown to love even more now.

Actually, the reason I got into that kind of music was that I decided to check out more of the stuff Harry Styles listens to, simply because he’s my favourite person on earth and I knew he liked some of my favourite bands as well. So I summoned all my stalking skills, collected all the information on his music taste I could find and put everything into a playlist.

To be honest, I didn’t expect to like it very much cause I used to get really annoyed when my parents put on their records from that time, but I soon found myself listening to the playlist all day. And the next day. And the day after that. Of course, there are recent songs in there as well which makes it a lovely mix, so do check it out if you fancy listening to something new. 🙂
But I didn’t only go back in time music-wise this month – my other favourite has actually only been released yesterday, so putting it in here is a bit of a cheat, but it’s so good that not mentioning it would’ve felt more than wrong.

You might already know that The 1975 are one of my favourite bands, so it’s not a big surprise I love everything they release, but I guarantee you they’ve truly outdone themselves with this one.

Their new album “I like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it” does not only have the longest title I’ve ever heard, but is also the most aesthetically pleasing work of art I’ve ever seen/ listened to.

You can really tell that the songs on this album belong together and build an entity which I love because it makes me feel like the artists are trying to tell a story or paint a picture that everyone can interpret individually. I feel like”I like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it” is not only an album, but a whole new concept the band has created which is also expressed by the entire design of the album and booklet.

I wish I was one of those brilliant music critics so I could tell you precisely what it is about this album that makes it so special, but, to be honest, I have no idea. There’s just something about it that makes you get completely lost in it and, to me, that’s exactly what music should achieve.

 Food

The best (even though not exactly healthiest) way to deal with exam stress is snacking as much as you possibly can. So naturally, as I had some important ones to write this month, I was snacking A LOT. Eventually, I had had so much that I’d reached a point where I didn’t wanna see any sweets or salty snacks ever again – with two exceptions. Sea salted crisps, cause you can never go wrong with those and Cadbury Marvellous Smashables chocolate cause it’s too good to ever get sick of it.

Obviously, when you eat that much, you also ought have something to drink, right? Especially during stressful times, tea is always the answer and although a good old Yorkshire or PG tips surely is lovely, for some reason, I really fancied some fruit tea, mainly cause it tastes absolutely brilliant combined with chocolate. However, to choose the right one is quite tricky cause it’s hard to find fruit teas that don’t consist of 99% sugar. Fortunately, I found the perfect one at Sainsbury’s for less than a pound and I’m not kidding you when I say it’s the best tea I’ve ever had. Definitely try it out if you can, you won’t regret it!

Beauty

My best friend and I recently went to London for a day and decided to have a look around Lush Oxford Street and – holy guacamole – it’s literally heaven. Despite actually wanting to use the little time we had in London to do some shopping, we somehow managed to spend two entire hours inside the store trying out one product after the other, getting free hand massages, smelling at everything until we actually started to feel a little woozy and talking to a very lovely shop assistant called Carlos who knew more about every single Lush product than you can possibly imagine. When we did manage to leave after donkey’s years and carried on with our shopping tour by getting some books at Waterstones, the cashier legit asked us whether we’d been to Lush although she was standing metres away from us – that’s how good we smelled!

Even though there’s probably nothing as great as the scents at Lush, I’ve also really been loving this body butter I picked up at Tk Maxx some weeks ago. The scent is called “acai berry” which I’ve admittedly never heard of before, but it sort of smells like a very nice and fresh blend of raspberry, blueberry, strawberry and blackberry. It’s super moisturising, very soft on the skin and a perfect scent for getting in the right mood for spring!

As I’m already rambling on about things that smell amazing, I’d also quickly like to recommend this peach blossom candle by Price’s, you’ll understand why I love it so much as soon as you smell it.

Stationary

As I’m a proper stationary nerd and get more excited than any normal person would whenever I get to buy new notebooks, pens or pencils, I was absolutely chuffed when I found out that a Tiger store had recently opened up in my city. In case you’ve never been to one of their shops, they don’t only sell lovely stationary, but also lots of different little bits and bobs that nobody really needs but everyone wants cause they’re beyond cute and not to expensive either. When I hopped on the train into town to check out the new store, I really wasn’t disappointed. In fact, I wanted to buy everything I saw, but luckily somehow managed to restrict myself from doing so and only got a few presents for some friends and this sparkly notebook, which I adore more than anything else and now use to collect my favourite poems.

On my way back, I also had another quick look through Tk Maxx where I came across these adorable little cards that are perfect if you wanna leave someone a cute message or surprise your friends or family members by giving them one of these and reminding them that you’re glad to have them in your life.

Soooo, I suppose that’s all for this month. You might have noticed that I didn’t include any books in this, the reason for that is that I’m gonna discuss those in a separate post because the ones I read this month are way too good to just talk about in one or two sentences. If you like, let me know if you’ve tried any of the things mentioned and tell me about your own favourites! Wishing you all a good start into the next week xx
